Custom Furniture from Istanbul: How Bespoke Design Works
You have a space that off-the-shelf furniture cannot solve. Maybe it is a hospitality project with unusual dimensions. Maybe it is a residential space that demands something personal. Or maybe you simply want a piece that does not exist yet. That is where custom furniture design begins.
Step 1: The Conversation
Every custom project starts with understanding the context. Not just dimensions, but how the space is used, who uses it, what feeling it should create. For residential clients, it starts with photos and references. For hospitality clients, architectural drawings and brand guidelines. We do not need a finished design from you. We need the brief. The design is our job.
Step 2: Concept & Material Selection
Our designer Cansu Ariti develops initial concepts as hand sketches and digital renders. Istanbul has one of the richest artisan supply networks in the world: solid hardwoods, Italian and Turkish marble, premium leathers, handwoven ropes, custom metalwork. We present 2-3 concept directions with material samples. You give feedback, we refine.
Step 3: Technical Development
Once the concept is approved, we move to technical drawings specifying every dimension, joint, angle, and finish. For furniture, precision matters at the millimeter level. A rocking chair that is 2cm off in its balance point does not feel right.
Step 4: Crafting
Production happens in our Istanbul workshop with specialist artisans. A single piece might involve a woodworker, metalsmith, stone carver, and weaver. A custom side table takes 4-6 weeks. A full dining set with mixed materials, 8-12 weeks.
Why Istanbul? Compared to bespoke furniture from Western Europe, Istanbul offers comparable quality at significantly better pricing. The artisan network is vast, material supply excellent, and infrastructure supports small-batch, high-quality production. European-level design and craft without the European price tag.
Who Is Custom Furniture For?
